Lizz is a Graduate Assistant for Evaluation and Research for the NSF Grant on the Computing Fellows program, and a Graduate Assistant at the CEP. She is from Texas, but has lived in New York City since 2013. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin in Anthropology and Urban Studies, where she focused on race and incarceration in Brazil and the US. After a long engagement with anti-incarceration work in Texas, she moved to New York to teach secondary mathematics to incarcerated youth in District 79. In 2020, she left the classroom to pursue doctoral studies at Teachers College in Applied Anthropology where her research focuses on race, ethnicity, heritage commodification, and urban redevelopment in southern Brazil. Outside of these academic pursuits, she trains and teaches Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and travel internationally as a referee.
