Services for Instructors
The CEP welcomes anyone who has an instructional role at Barnard to request the following services:
- Teaching observations: Members of the CEP staff are available upon request to observe and offer feedback on one's teaching. The feedback we offer is tailored to focus on the specific areas that instructors identify. Ultimately, the process is designed to give instructors control over what our staff observes and how the feedback we offer will be implemented. To learn more about the observation process or to request this service, please email Melissa Wright or Alex Pittman.
- Course and teaching consultations: Set up an appointment with a CEP staff member to discuss your course and/or teaching strategies, including course design, assessment, use of educational technology, and suggestions for navigating challenging classroom moments. To request a course or teaching consultation, instructors can email pedagogy@barnard.edu or request an appointment time on the CEP Staff Office Hours page.
- Assessment and evaluation consultations: The CEP offers support on assessment and evaluation strategies for any Barnard course or pedagogy-related project or grant. Instructors can request support on articulating assessment and evaluation questions, designing an assessment plan or strategy (e.g., grant evaluation plan), refining assignments and instruments, identifying tools for analyzing data, and summarizing results for course improvement or other purposes. CEP staff are also happy to provide a supportive space for interpreting and reflecting on course evaluation results. To request any of these assessment services, instructors can email pedagogy@barnard.edu or Melissa Wright at mawright@barnard.edu.
- Learning, Engagement, and Assessment Fellow Services: Instructors can also request a Barnard student fellow to support student learning assessment in their class or department/program, including support with course surveys, early and mid-semester feedback sessions, rubric creation, assignment design, and longer pedagogical partnerships (e.g., over the course of a unit or semester). Fellows participated in weekly learning community sessions over the summer to develop knowledge and skills, and with CEP support can be paired with instructors for assessment and other pedagogical activities. To request a trained fellow, please fill out this form. Learn more about the program and current student fellows here. For questions about the LEAF program, please contact us at leafs@barnard.edu.
